Honoring Pastor Kamran Salamat: A Faithful Servant of Christ Who Was Brutally Murdered in Pakistan for Refusing to Stop Proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus

PRESS RELEASE – by Farooq Bashir

Christian Pastor Kamran Salamat, aged 45, was brutally murdered on 5 December 2025 outside his residence in Islam Colony, Sialkot Road, Gujranwala, Pakistan. Pastor Kamran Salamat was shot at close range by an unidentified assailant while leaving home with his daughter, Numeer, to take her to college. He sustained gunshot wounds to his right wrist, left ear, and lower abdomen, and despite emergency medical treatment at Civil Hospital Gujranwala, Pastor Kamran Salamat later succumbed to his injuries.

The attack took place at approximately 9:00 am when a motorcyclist approached Pastor Kamran Salamat and opened fire. His daughter showed remarkable courage and attempted to stop the attacker by striking him with her father’s crutch, forcing the assailant to flee. Police arrived at the scene, collected forensic evidence, and obtained CCTV footage. A First Information Report has been registered under Section 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code, and the attacker—described as having a long beard—has reportedly been identified by Pastor Kamran Salamat’s daughter. Investigations are ongoing.

Pastor Kamran Salamat had previously survived an extremist attack in Islamabad two months ago, where he was shot in the leg. After recovering, Pastor Kamran Salamat moved to Gujranwala for safety but continued travelling regularly to Islamabad to serve his church and community. He was a well-known Christian leader, Chairman of the Pastors Alliance Islamabad, and an active voice for minority rights in Pakistan. Pastor Kamran Salamat is survived by his widow, Salmina Kamran, his daughters Numeer and Arina, and his son Ariel.

I, Farooq Bashir, Advocate High Court Pakistan, LLM (UK), and General Secretary of the Christian Lawyers Alliance Pakistan, strongly condemn this heinous and cowardly act. The murder of Pastor Kamran Salamat is a direct attack on religious freedom, the rule of law, and the constitutional rights of minority communities in Pakistan. I demand an immediate, transparent, and independent investigation, the arrest of the perpetrators, and strict accountability of any officials found negligent or complicit.

The State has a constitutional and moral duty to protect all citizens, regardless of their faith. I call upon the federal and provincial governments, law-enforcement agencies, and judicial authorities to ensure that justice is delivered without delay, and that targeted violence against Christian minority communities—such as the killing of Pastor Kamran Salamat—is prevented through firm legal and administrative action.
